Hello there! My name is Elaine Dodoo, and I am a Tight Curl Specialist building Tight Curl Nation.

As a curl specialist, I’ve been blessed to transform the lives of my clients in North Carolina and Florida, as well as virtually through my online course, by teaching them how to style their hair at home. The success stories moved me so much that I wanted to take this experience back to my home country, Ghana, where many naturals mostly wear braids, wigs and weaves as an alternative to wearing their natural hair out and having to deal with it in the humidity, and where there is a lack of access to curl specialists.

On this trip I worked one on one with clients to introduce them to their natural curls, as many of them had never experienced their hair in this way before. I wanted to teach an easier alternative style to the familiar twist outs, braid outs, and bantu knots, and to show that wearing our natural curls just the way they are is possible, and can be simple and fun.

I also collaborated with several salons in Accra through workshops to teach the framework of curly cuts, which would allow them to style and cut tight curls into harmonious shapes that will encourage their clientele to wear their hair out confidently, as oppose to hiding their natural hair behind extensions.

The success stories from this trip were so overwhelmingly exciting, and within the few months following the trip, there has been a ripple effect as the clients I worked with have shared what they know with others, and stylists have been able to introduce a new style to their natural hair clients.

Through documenting my trip on social media, I received a ton of messages from women in other countries who wanted to experience their curls too, yet didn’t have stylists locally who specialize in curls and cuts. I noticed most of the requests were from fellow African countries like Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria. I became inspired to embark on a journey to do what I can to meet this demand.

I’m building Tight Curl Nation as a way of making this experience of easy hair care and curl confidence accessible to naturals worldwide, one country at a time.

As I prepare for my next teaching trip, I’d love for you to help me continue to make these travel sessions and workshops scalable by contributing to the movement and Joining the Nation.
